The Benefits Of CEREC Crowns
You may have never heard of a CEREC crown, but these types of crowns are the best when it comes to getting a dental crown procedure done quickly and easily. With a CEREC crown, there is no waiting and no use of a temporary crown to hold the place of a permanent crown. In one day, you can have a permanently fixed crown over your damaged tooth and get back to your normal life.
What Is The Procedure For Getting A CEREC Crown?
CEREC stands for “Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics.” The process uses computer aided drafting and a state of the art 3D printer to create the crown that will go over your damaged tooth while you wait. If you have determined that you want a CEREC crown and have been approved for the procedure by our dental team, you will be able to have your new crown in only one day and one appointment.
Our dentists will start by clearing any damaged parts of the tooth or cavities if necessary, and then shaping the damaged tooth to fit the new crown. After the tooth is shaped, digital pictures will be taken of the damaged tooth as well as the surrounding teeth that are fed directly into a program that involves computer aided drafting. This program is linked to a 3D printer, and while you wait the program will direct the printer in creating a new crown that will very closely fit your damaged tooth. We will then polish the crown and permanently affix it to the damaged tooth. The whole procedure can take just a couple hours, and CEREC crowns last just as long as lab fabricated crowns.
