Signs You Could Benefit from a Fluoride Treatment

Signs You Could Benefit from a Fluoride TreatmentFluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in plants. It can also be synthesized as well. In most brands of toothpaste and mouthwash there is a small amount of fluoride.

Fluoride has many different uses, and one of those uses is strengthening the teeth. The way fluoride does this is by binding to our teeth's enamel making them stronger and more resilient.

While over-the-counter toothpastes and mouthwashes have fluoride, there isn't much in them. There's more in them than what naturally occurs in plant life, however. If you want to get the ultimate protection for your teeth, a fluoride treatment may be the way to go.

You should consider a fluoride treatment under two circumstances. First, a treatment may be a good option if you are prone to cavities. Since fluoride strengthens the teeth's enamels, it is a great way to prevent bacteria from eating away at your teeth. Second, fluoride may be good to help sensitive teeth. Weak enamel causes some forms of sensitive teeth. Using fluoride can help prevent the pain felt from having sensitive teeth. Plus, you'll get the benefit of cavity prevention.

Are Over-the-counter Treatments Okay to Use?

You may have seen different types of fluoride treatments at your local supermarket. While these can benefit some people, they can also be done incorrectly. An improperly done treatment can cause tooth problems such as teeth pitting, aesthetic teeth defects, and bone problems. These problems typically occur when someone applies too much fluoride solution to their teeth.

To avoid damaging your teeth with a fluoride solution, we recommend coming to our dental office for a treatment. We have the experience and knowledge needed to apply a fluoride treatment safely and effectively. Please call us if you're considering a fluoride treatment, and we'll be happy to help you!
